DCTA Discussing Proposed Changes - Community Survey Opened |
DCTA has spent the last few months discussing a new proposed fare structure, plans to integrate the Authority’s existing fixed-routes with future A-train stations, proposed service levels for the A-train, and changes to the Authority’s Access policy.
The proposed fare structure will create two fare zones and include a modest increase in existing fares. A local fare zone will include all trips within Denton County and the regional fare zone would include trips into Dallas County. The local zone will also include two fare types: a bus only fare and a system fare.
Although many of the proposed changes to DCTA’s existing fixed route structure are minor, DCTA is proposing to eliminate small sections of Connect Routes 2, 3, 4 & 6 in Denton to provide connectivity to the rail stations, the new Denton County Administrative Complex and Rayzor Ranch.
When the DART Trinity Mills station opens, DCTA’s Commuter Express service will serve that station to offer customers DART connection opportunities. Commuter Express will no longer provide direct service into Downtown Dallas.
DCTA is proposing limited peak period rail service Monday through Friday with some accommodation for some weekend or special event trains as the budget allows.
The proposed changes to DCTA’s Access policy include the creation of two zones: a Denton zone and a Lewisville/Highland Village zone. DCTA will not provide Access trips between the two zones.
If you missed the public meetings, you can view the presentations online at www.dcta.net in the Resource Center. A web-based survey is yet another way you can provide feedback. A-train progress |

Miles of new track, nearly a dozen rebuilt crossings, and a 1,400-foot sound-wall show the progress of the A-train passenger rail construction that aims to link Denton and Dallas counties.
Since construction began this summer, workers have cleared vegetation from the railroad right-of-way, rebuilt eleven road crossings, installed a sound-wall and started on three others, and have begun work on commuter and pedestrian bridges.
Work has started at three of the five stations and the installation of crossing signals and gates is underway at several crossings. Currently, crews have also have started building a bridge at Loop 288 in Denton, where they are drilling piers and pouring foundations.
During this part of construction, the eastbound left-hand lane and the westbound left-hand lane of Loop 288 in Denton will be closed for three months starting Feb. 10. This closure extends to 400 feet on both sides of the rail trail in the area between Brinker Road and Colorado Boulevard.
Workers are also constructing the Swisher Road commuter and pedestrian bridges and will start the Morse Creek commuter and pedestrian bridges in mid-February.
The sound -between Mill Street and Lake Park has been completed and workers are now building a sound-wall between Burl Street and Dobbs and another one between Dobbs and Quail Run. In mid-February, workers will begin working on a sound-wall between Corinth Parkway and Quail Run. |
