A-train progress |

Miles of new track, nearly a dozen rebuilt crossings, and a 1,400-foot sound-wall show the progress of the A-train passenger rail construction that aims to link Denton and Dallas counties.
Since construction began this summer, workers have cleared vegetation from the railroad right-of-way, rebuilt eleven road crossings, installed a sound-wall and started on three others, and have begun work on commuter and pedestrian bridges.
Work has started at three of the five stations and the installation of crossing signals and gates is underway at several crossings. Currently, crews have also have started building a bridge at Loop 288 in Denton, where they are drilling piers and pouring foundations.
During this part of construction, the eastbound left-hand lane and the westbound left-hand lane of Loop 288 in Denton will be closed for three months starting Feb. 10. This closure extends to 400 feet on both sides of the rail trail in the area between Brinker Road and Colorado Boulevard.
Workers are also constructing the Swisher Road commuter and pedestrian bridges and will start the Morse Creek commuter and pedestrian bridges in mid-February.
The sound -between Mill Street and Lake Park has been completed and workers are now building a sound-wall between Burl Street and Dobbs and another one between Dobbs and Quail Run. In mid-February, workers will begin working on a sound-wall between Corinth Parkway and Quail Run. |

Denton Street Crossing Closures |
The Denton County Transportation Authority is currently constructing a 21-mile regional rail project that will connect Denton County with the Dallas Area Rapid Transit light-rail system in Carrollton. This train will run along the existing Denton Branch Rail Trail. The rail trail will be relocated to the east within the existing right-of-way. You can view the planned construction line on the maps page.
As part of this project, each of the at-grade street and driveway crossings along the entire alignment have been evaluated for potential closure in order to avoid future conflicts with vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic operations at those locations. The elimination of any crossings immediately removes these conflict points, eliminates the need for railroad gates and lights, and eliminates warning horns, bells and flashing beacons from that location. Based on a thorough engineering assessment, DCTA has concluded that two specific street crossings within Denton (Robertson and Duncan) are recommended for closure and/or realignment.
Because of your close proximity to these crossings, we would like to meet with you to discuss our recommendations and proposed alternatives. DCTA will present detailed information on our recommendations on July 21st at 6 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Recreation Center at 1300 Wilson Street. We will also be available at the monthly meeting of the Southeast Denton Neighborhood Association. The meeting will be held at the Martin Luther King Recreation Center at 7:00 p.m. on July 27th.
If you prefer, I will gladly meet with you one-on-one to discuss concerns specific to your property. If you are interested in an individual meeting with DCTA, please contact Rusty Comer at 972-221-4600 or
